To people like that, random college students are "establishment" because they are lefty, and the literal President of the United States is "anti-establishment" because he uses slurs on social media.

There's an invisible tradeoff here. The US has an extremely expansive view of free speech, so you get a very noisy picture of its politics, half of which is Infowars-level insane lies. This is a large cause of its problems. China absolutely does not have free media, and if it did it wouldn't publish primarily in English, so its negatives are very hard to see. Even for Chinese speakers.

I do not believe anyone will be running 100 year old turbines in a geothermal plant. Those things have fairly serious lifetime maintenance requirements.

> If we were to uncap the size of the House of Representatives, and instead change so that each district contains 50k people (or close to it), we would have roughly 7k representatives in the House.

Nice and proportional, but a completely unwieldy number of representatives. 700 reps for 500k people each would be more manageable.

(of course, that means very little if (a) they're only from two parties and (b) all 7k districts are gerrymandered six ways from sunday)

No, otherwise the first meteorite to hit would have caused the whole thing to go up in a massive conflagration.

As opposed to the Alex Jones show, a Two Minute Hate for rightwingers? These people love to dish it out but can't take it when someone else uses their tactics against them.

If people want to get their "hard truths" out, they shouldn't contaminate them with 9/10 parts of lies, and they certainly shouldn't run a harassment campaign against the parents of murdered children.

Yes.

As various Japanese developers have discovered, you can fit quite a lot of distinct characters into 8x8 if your audience is familiar with them: https://japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/36423/is-this-8...

However I don't think even native developers with full Unicode language support tend to use Japanese/Chinese characters in variable names or keywords. There is the occasional hybrid registry key such as "令和_令_Reiwa_R" (which will allow the temporary replacement of the name of the Emperor in Windows dates when the current one dies).

The "one price" is oddly small for a cloud company. I'm sure it's nice and fast but the $20/mo seems smaller than some companies' free tiers, especially for disk.

The main reason clouds offer network block devices is abstraction.

Don’t worry - that will certainly change in the future if they have any kind of success :)

Like the Nigerian Prince emails, by selecting MAGA he's pre-selecting people who want to be lied to and have an easily-pressable set of ideological buttons.

(before someone asks what the left equivalent is, bluesky has a plague of accounts claiming to be Palestinian refugees and asking for money)
