what I thought when I read the article: wait, what? they're collecting this information over my phone from my car!?

eventually got me to this: https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.15561 maybe interesting for someone whos privacy focused.

So simple — why hasn't anyone thought of that already?

typically you don’t know that you are looking for steel-balls in sand, you might be looking for gold coins etc. in such cases the space of all interesting fingerprints is just too large.

The interesting fingerprints are the ones which are different than the surrounding material.

And that is too large a space to test them all with this method.

They have.

absolutly agree. I find https://10fastfingers.com much better.

Seems to be resolved, if I'm reading it right: https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk/discussions/6444#discus...

still love it. Been hosting a small (aprox 20 people) instance for a non-profit since more than 8+ years (even before owncloud and nextcloud split up).

Thats why I allways still try to pay in cash. also the anonymity is a big plus too.

One of my favorite occassional dopamine hits is when I have exact change for the transaction. Younger cashiers don't typically seem to care.

The video is now private, did someone upload it somewhere else?

They forgot to mention how many times it helped to find people in need. its easy to say 45 times there was an error - imagine how many times emergency services around the world get sent to the wrong or unaccurate location...

That's not how emergency comm is supposed to work
