well, the max hours you can work is regulated by law. and if you think about it, if a company hires a junior developer, he is greeting paid as a junior and the company is also spending hours on his training ans so on. if the company is switching stacks or wants you to do something completely new to the company the time spend learning is working, nobody is expected to learn that on its own time.


Where are these mythical companies that train developers? Ifthe company switches technology stacks that’s one thing, but if a company is willing to give you a shot even though you don’t know the technology stack, why wouldn’t I be expected to learn on my own time? They could have just as easily hired someone who already knows the stack. Yes the company benefits, but so do I. In a year or two either they are going to payment more based on my knowledge (not likely) or I have the skill set to jump ship and make more somewhere else.


Yes, there are. In Germany it's called Ausbildung. Many companies do have the management needed for subsequent technology training though.
