To me this is exactly what the FIRE movement is about (Financial Independence, Retire Early). I know some people just want to live on the beach or run a hobby farm or foster 10 rescue dogs at a time, but many will have the time, desire, and bandwidth to participate in activities like this which require the type of bandwidth that very much feels like a job.
