The feature exists, as shown here. But it is clunky, provided by a third party. The more elegant solution would be to be implemented in the core product but turned off by default of the concern you’ve mentioned is the actual reason.

“ I think they’ve explicitly decided against [providing] such a feature”. Of course it exists, I don’t think they want to make it a part of the experience they provide.
