Here in Canada there was a recent article about a woman with a UTI she was given antibiotics but the infection always returned. That went on for eight years! At the last of it she had to have a kidney removed and then the other kidney was at risk too. Then they tried bacteriophages in combination with antibiotics and she was cured in a short duration.
