I just want to see desktops or servers with the high-performance chips that I can readily buy online. Also, knowing the company will be making replacement parts in a few years. Preferably priced competitively with x86 servers.
Do these exist yet? And is there a list of all of the stores?
Note to product developers. Consider making a SoC with high-performance core and your differentiating accelerators. Sell the full SoC for high price to get back your investment. Yet, include the ability to disable the accelerators to leave only a RISC-V system. Sell that on the side for x86 prices. That might make one financially viable more than hoping just to sell a RISC-V by itself. Ex: 10Gbps network accelerator/encryptor using dual/quad-core RISC-V + custom hardware for networking/crypto disables the latter but leaves dual/quad cores.
A realistic initial ISA spec for desktops and servers was first published in November 2021, less than three years ago. It generally takes 3-4 years from the design of a CPU core being finished and announced and available for licensing for a high performance chip to be designed around it, put into mass production, and chips designed on to boards, and put on sale to the public.
In addition, except for SiFive, the serious and well-funded companies with experienced CPU designers from Intel, AMD, Arm, Apple, Qualcomm etc mostly were founded or started work on a RISC-V core in 2021 or so.
