I wonder if Fitzgibbon fits this pattern? Fitz being “the bastard son of…” and Gibbon, like ape? Or perhaps Gibbon has another meaning?

My guess is its just like Robin:
Rob + kin -> Robkin -> Robin
Gib + kin -> Gibkin -> Gibbon
