They really nerfed Plus[0]. 80 messages every 3 hours for normal GPT-5. And only 200 messages per week for GPT-5 Thinking. It seems like terrible value.
Before it was:
100 o3 per week
100 o4-mini-high per day
300 o4-mini per day
50 4.5 per week
They nerfed free too. Just yesterday, it felt like I had 50 gpt4o messages and had a 2 hour long conversation with it. Now I'm out with far less use at about 30 min.
I'm guessing they'll just announce massive tier generosity later considering how GPT-5 input tokens are half the price of 4.1 on the API. It's probably a way to keep the servers from being overloaded and to encourage people to buy Plus while the hype is hot.
Oh nice so if you just used o3 (like me) there's an increase If it's not good I'll just unsubscribe. 100 o3 was enough for me and I used o3 almost exclusively. So I'm not super worried. If it's no longer SOTA and Gemini or Claude are better for everything I'll just cancel.
The fast thing: 100/300 per day -> 640 per day (ish)
The expensive thing: 100 per week -> 200 per week
This is...the opposite of a nerf? The numbers goed up? (We can quibble about the daily vs hourly difference, but certainly for me the weekly cap was the only thing that mattered.)
It depends how you use it. If you exclusively used 4o and o3 then it is better now. But if you’re like me who used all models it’s worse. 4.5 was amazing for writing and still far better than ChatGPT 5. 5 thinking is probably better than o3, but I used mini-high for minor thinking tasks. That’s just not possible anymore due to the quota.
The search limits are surely mostly from limits on energy and compute costs.
The better analogue is "Imagine in the 70's being able to teletype into an insanely expensive compute infrastructure and have reasonable timesharing capabilities of a limited resource across multiple users."

We already look back on earlier times with constraints that were appropriate.
Presumably compute will get cheaper, we'll build more datacenters, maybe we'll even power them in a way that doesn't destroy our planet, and GPT questions will become too cheap to meter. Just give it some time.
