I faced similar issues with the Swiss keyboard layout. I suggest switching to the “US International“ layout and use the dead keys to obtain the umlauts. There’s also a keyboard option that enables a umlaut menu with a long press on the keyboard- if you really want to avoid the dead keys (this might help: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/254094/character-a...).

The Apple “English International“ keyboard has a big enter key - if you dislike the small enter key of the US keyboard layout.

Fantastical (iOS/macOS) solves this use-case for me. It supports configuring different views (personal, work, etc...). Moving an event from one calendar to another calendar is also well-supported.

Switzerland, I’m getting 1, 10 or 25gbit (ptp) from my local isp (https://www.init7.net) for ~70 usd per month. I currently only use 1gbit because the 25/10gbit hardware is too big or too loud to fit into my electrical cabinet. There’s also cheaper 1/10 gbit options, but they suffer from massive oversubscription and gpon.

It looks like they disabled their webshop:

  We are closed for business.
New orders are no longer accepted.

This was a huge shock to me too, a few weeks ago. I emailed them, and Perry replied:

Well, we did not exactly plan to have this happen either although at 82 and after 47 years in the business we knew that our time was limited. What triggered this was that our custom written software, developed over 20 years started to fail and our developer abandoned the project. We knew that switching over to another package was a possibility but that it would take the better part of a year to accomplish and that was not appealing.

However, over the years we have received inquiries about selling the business. We have a fully qualified buyer who is now considering purchase. The business was profitable and had no debt and is a natural fit for this potential purchaser. These things take time but our books probably will be back on the market in 2 to 3 months.

We're using FastAPI for the backend. We then use the OpenAPI.json exposed by the documentation endpoint to generate API bindings for Typescript.

The published code on Github looks very nice! It is easy to read and understand.

Kudos to Alyssa!

For me, the eGPU setup is not worth the benefits. I am also waiting for Apple Silicon to streamline my setup.

I have a MacMini + eGPU. Every time I (re)boot the machine I have to remember to remove the remove the eGPU: Otherwise I cannot enter the filevault password. This is super annoying since the machine seems to have crashed every time I want to use it (even without an eGPU).

Previously I used the eGPU with an 13” MPB and the experience was annoying in different ways: Simply unplugging the eGPU kills the programs using it. Every time I wanted to “undock” the MBP I had to remember to click to remove the eGPU from the MBP: otherwise half the programs running are killed/not responsive.

re/ the Mac Mini + eGPU + File Vault = no reboot... Really? Brutal!

I was just yesterday looking at a new Mac Mini and a couple of LG 5K monitors (and, thus, the Apple Store eGPU). And I use File Vault. Because Apple.

So is this a known reboot problem? I want to run this Mac Mini as an always-on server for home media when logged out.

Any Apple support links on this?

There you go: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544

> 1. If you have a Mac mini (2018) with FileVault turned on, make sure to connect your primary display directly to Mac mini during startup. After you log in and see the macOS Desktop, you can unplug the display from Mac mini and connect it to your eGPU.

Re conbee2:

Checkout https://phoscon.de/en/conbee2 You can control a wide range of Zigbee devices without installing a gateway. From Philips Hue or Ikea lamps to plant sensors from Aliexpress.

List of supported devices: https://github.com/dresden-elektronik/deconz-rest-plugin/wik...

You would integrate the devices with an OpenSource HomeKit or HomeBridge implementation on a Raspberry or similar into your home.

No pricing is an immediate turn-off. Best they seem to have is another "Contact Us (and tell us how thick your wallet is)" button: https://www.meteomatics.com/en/eshop/

I also use Fastmail to host my calendar and contacts - next to my email. I enjoy the web interface and lI especially like that the iOS integration just works.
